Support students at Pell Elementary School as a morning greeter or librarian!
Volunteers meaningfully support our kids by connecting Newport students to the broader community, helping to improve school attendance, and by fostering a love of reading.
Whether you are welcoming students or helping them take out books, volunteering at Pell is an impactful, easy, and FUN way to connect with Newport kids. Volunteers arrive at 8:00am (parking is available) and wrap up by 8:45am. Teachers and staff are always present so volunteers’ role is simply to welcome students to school and support them in the library – with joy!
Follow these 2 steps to volunteer!
Complete a background check
All volunteers must complete a background check to ensure the safety of our kids.
- Fill out the background check application.
- Email the completed application to [email protected]
- Have the form notarized by a staff member at Pell Elementary School or use a notary of your choice.
- Drop off the notarized application, a copy of your photo ID, and a $5 check or money order to the Newport Police Department. If the $5 cost is a barrier, please email [email protected] so we can assist.
Within five business days you will be notified of the results of your background check at the email listed on your application. The school will also be notified of the results.
Fill out the interest form
Once you submit your form, a member of the RENEWport team will be in touch shortly to share additional information and to schedule your volunteer shifts. We ask that library volunteers commit to coming regularly (i.e. every Monday).
