Summer Adventure Camp is an 8-week literacy, science and math-based program for children entering 1st grade through those entering 5th grade. The camp costs $170/week.
The camp schedule is dependent upon Newport Public School’s calendar and is tentatively scheduled for 7.6.28 through 8.28.26.
Department of Human Service (“DHS”) childcare subsidies are accepted. Scholarships are available for families with demonstrated need. All are encouraged to apply.
One of the goals of Summer Camp at the MLK is to help prevent the academic slide that normally occurs over the summer. All of the activities are fun, with a wide array of field trips integrated into an experiential learning curriculum that increases the camper’s knowledge base.
Activities/Field trips include :
- Sailing Lessons with Sail Newport
- Daily Beach Trips
- Exploring the Norman Bird Sanctuary
- Singing with Newport County Youth Chorus
- Marine Explorations
- Gardening with Aquidneck Community Table
- Cooking & Nutrition classes
- Sports & Wellness
- Creative Exploration
The MLK Center has Spanish-speaking teachers and welcomes multilingual learners.
